ABOUT FKP

Founded in 2012, FRIENDS OF KRUG PARK is a grassroots group of volunteers. Our purpose is to ensure that the park remains an urban sanctuary of natural beauty for families, just as the original donors Henry Krug and Henry Krug Jr. intended.

ADVOCATE

Friends of Krug Park works with the St. Joseph City Council, the Parks Dept. and other local officials to contribute to the future preservation of the park for families and visitors. Our members have served on civic committees to obtain funding for restoration projects throughout the park, and with the Parks Dept. to help design new features in the park.

VOLUNTEER

We bring in teams of citizens to accomplish a variety of projects. In the past few years, FKP volunteers have painted several hundred feet of railing, 22 picnic tables, stained 4 pergolas and a gazebo, and spread ‘chat’ in the Rose Garden pathways. We have also hosted an online anti-litter slogan contest, repainted trash cans and applied the selected slogans to them. We host several clean-up events in the park throughout the season.

ENGAGE YOUTH

Friends of Krug Park works with youth groups to provide volunteer opportunities to build pride in their community and themselves. We feel strongly that young people have value and can make a difference. We teach self-esteem and responsibility, as well as a sense of ownership of the park.

FAMILY FUN

Friends of Krug Park hosts several kid-friendly events throughout the season., including Sidewalk Chalk Parties, Kindness Rocks, kite flying, picnics and scavenger hunts. These events are free and encourage families to come out and enjoy the park together!
